If you are considering joining our Grace and Glory Hospice Volunteer Team, thank you for visiting our website! We are glad you have taken this step to check out what volunteering with us is all about.
Volunteering with hospice is so rewarding and unique. Our volunteers come from all backgrounds of life and with many different skills. Some people have a heart to sit with patients and give their time and loving presence to someone in their last months and even last days of life. What beautiful humans they are! Others have musical talent and help provide a wonderful experience for everyone involved. Music is especially special for our dementia patients since they can sometimes remember songs even if they have trouble in other areas of memory. And then there are those that have amazing handwriting and the ability to talk to people over the phone. We love our office volunteers! They keep the mood in the office uplifting and utilize their skills to support the families we serve through our bereavement program.
All of our volunteers go through our Hospice Volunteer Training to help them understand their very important role as a part of our Hospice Team. When you hear someone say, “hospice volunteer” you may think a person helping give physical care to patients. We do not have our volunteers help with the physical care of our patients. We have excellent staff that provide those services, however volunteers can provide something extra. The role of our volunteers is to brighten the day of our patients and their families. They come to the patient’s home and offer their time and support to sit with them while the family or caretaker can get a break. The family or caretaker may choose to stay and enjoy our volunteers company, take a much needed nap, or go get some shopping done. Our volunteers typically spend 30 minutes to an hour for each visit. The time they spend driving also counts towards their volunteer hours.
We love to acknowledge our volunteers as well with special events and certificates showing the time you have given supporting our mission. Grace and Glory Hospice Volunteers bless the families and communities we serve and we can’t thank them enough! Start the process of becoming a part of our volunteer team and apply today!
